GOLDIE - The first of our Golden Retrievers.
Goldie

Welcome to the Golden world!  Golden Retrievers are one of the most family oriented dogs and are great with kids.  They are people pleasers, so they are very easy to train.

It is important to purchase your Golden from a responsible breeder, not someone who is throwing two dogs together to have puppies.  Golden Retrievers have certain genetic defects that can be passed on from the parents.

The most common is hip dysplasia.  The two ways to screen for this is OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for animals) and Penn Hip.  Their eyes are certified by the CERF (Canine Eye Registry Foundation).  The third is heart disease.  Dog breeders who specialize in Golden Retrievers know what to look for in genetics to help eliminate the possibilities of pups having these problems. Don't hesitate to ask questions. If you do not get the answer you are looking for move on.

A Brief History on Golden Retrievers:

The Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland in the mid 1800's and first exhibited in 1908. The AKC first provided registry of Golden Retrievers in 1925. In 1977 the American Kennel Club launched the first Obedience championship and all 3 places were won by Golden Retrievers.

Goldens are a kind dog known for their reliable temperament. This dogs are good hunters but they are just as happy pleasing their people at home. They thrive on interaction from their owners and can be mischievous if left unattended for long periods of time. While they can adapt to Apartment or Condo life regular exercise is a must for these active dogs.
